A Very Sweet Tooth

This work is an ode to small, private luxuries—cake, chocolate, a dram of something warming, and hot chocolate spiked with Baileys. Rendered in layered paper, photographed ephemera and paint, the composition gathers fragments of domestic ritual: crumbled cake edges, a glossy chocolate wrapper, the smeared ledger of a recipe, and a glass catching afternoon light.
While flashes of metallic foil and deep liquor red punctuate the field like sudden bursts of laughter.
There is a playful, almost ecstatic energy to the work: an orgasmic rush of endorphins translated into colour, texture and repetition. Yet beneath the blush and sparkle lies a quieter sentiment—comfort found in simple pleasures, and the consoling presence of enjoyment during a time when those small comforts feel profoundly important.
