The piece channels cinematic framing and montage: scenes collide, perspectives shift, and narrative expectation is playfully subverted. Absurdism supplies the humour and unease — objects and figures behave according to dreamlike, internally coherent rules rather than realist ones. Satire sharpens the work’s gaze, skewering cultural rituals and the performative gestures of everyday life with a wry, knowing hand.
Visually, All Together Now balances bold, flattened colour with unexpected textures and layered collage. Familiar icons are recontextualised—props and faces borrowed from filmic memory sit beside mundane detritus—so that recognition becomes estrangement. Compositionally, the piece uses repetition, offset symmetry and abrupt scale changes to produce a rhythm that feels both choreographed and spontaneous.
The result is a work that invites laughter and discomfort in equal measure. It rewards prolonged looking: at first a playful tableau, then a series of unsettling correspondences, finally a commentary on how stories, images and ideologies assemble into collective belief.
